BUREAU/OFFICE DESCRIPTION AND FUNCTIONS

MANDATE

The Bureau of Market Development, Promotions, and OTOP (BMDPO) is mandated to promote the efficient marketing of local products and services through the conduct of marketing events, such as trade fairs, in-store displays, exhibits, and local trade missions; expand and strengthen linkages among MSMEs through information exchange and business matching activities; and create awareness of domestic marketing opportunities for new projects, technologies, and investments.

It is also mandated to develop and maintain a domestic market database of local raw materials suppliers, local semi-processed products suppliers, local finished products suppliers, and buyers (institutional and big buyers).

ABOUT THE BUREAU

The BDTP is headed by a Director IV, with the support of an Assistant Director, currently a vacant position.  The bureau has two (2) divisions:  Market Development and Promotion Division (MDPD) and Market Information and Network Division (MIND). The current organizational structure with two divisions was approved under the DTI Rationalization of Agencies and Transfer of Functions (RAT) Plan in 2013.

While the BDTP mainly facilitates market linkages and access to new distribution channels for MSMEs primarily through the recurring National Food Fair, National Trade Fair, and National Arts and Crafts Fair, as well as buying and selling missions, other major programs have either been assigned to or initiated by the bureau in recent years such as the Bagsakan Special Project, the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) Projects, and the  Go Lokal Program which has been absorbed into the One Town, One Product (OTOP) Program.

Pursuant to Department Order No. 24-10 for Organizational Regrouping issued on January 24, 2024, the Bureau of Domestic Trade Promotion (BDTP) was renamed to Bureau of Market Development, Promotions, and OTOP (BMDPO). The bureau was also transferred from the Regional Operations Group to the newly created Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise Development Group (MDG).
